Pre-Admission Software for Long Term Acute Care Streamlines Admissions Decisions

Hospital for Special Care and MResult Healthcare to develop Hospital Pre-Admission Software tailored for Long Term Acute Care

New Britain CT and HAMDEN, CT. - August, 2009 - Hospital for Special Care (HSC) a leading provider of long term acute care services, and MResult Healthcare have entered into a joint agreement to develop an automated pre-admission/decision support software solution tailored for the needs of long term acute care.

"Long Term Acute Care hospitals face some unique challenges when admitting patients." said Stan Jankowsky, CIO of HSC. "The average length of stay for one of our patients is 30 days, and the risk of complications and rates of co-morbidity are high. It's very important for us to determine early on whether a patient is a good match for our care programs. Add to this the need to meet strict eligibility requirements defined by Medicare and Medicaid and the pressure to make sound admitting decisions is greater than ever. The application we are developing with MResult Healthcare will help us address this by automating the patient screening process and by providing decision support tools for the admitting physician."

Yann Beaullan-Thong, President of MResult Healthcare, agreed. "HSC has an advantage in that they have already adopted a rigorous, structured set of admitting criteria based on the NALTH criteria. In fact HSC's CEO, John Votto helped formulate those guidelines. By comparing the patient's profile at time of admission to historical data from an electronic medical record or similar repository, we can build a powerful model that can help match prospective patients with any institution's programs of care."

The software will be jointly owned and co-marketed by HSC and MResult Healthcare. "We have been working on this relationship for the past 8 months,” said Jankowski. “However, this new agreement establishes a development framework that will enable our companies to more rapidly achieve our joint goal of delivering unique technology solutions for long term acute care hospitals."
